Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Youth Development, the Youth Development Specialist for Creative Arts will work collaboratively with the Youth Development team and other CHNY program areas to provide safe and enriching opportunities for creative arts programming at Covenant House New York.  The Youth Development Specialist for Creative Arts will research, design, implement and oversee a comprehensive creative & performing arts program for Covenant House youth, including theatre arts (acting, directing, script writing, voice & movement), dance, music (voice, sound studio, instrumental & writing), writing (creative, poetry), filmmaking, visual arts (i.e. painting, drawing, sculpture); providing staff coverage; and performing other related work as required.

Essential Functions

  1. Work with the Director of Youth Development to implement CHNY Creative Arts program.
  2. Work collaboratively with the Youth Development Team to evaluate current creative arts programs/partnerships, conduct interviews and focus groups with facilitators, staff and residents for feedback.
  3. Manage existing internal Creative Arts programming; and create new Creative Arts programming opportunities that meet the needs and interest of CHNY Youth.
  4. Oversee Crossing Bridges Project.
  5. Recruit and oversee staff/teaching artists/volunteer partners that work to facilitate internal programs.
  6. Foster and maintain relationships with professional artists, university programs & conservatoires, build community engagement and support for Creative Arts programming
  7. Continuously evaluate programs as they are implemented.
  8. Provide staff coverage for scheduled nightly program activities as assigned
  9. Adhere to current policy and vetting process for internal and external projects and partnerships.
  10. Comply with relevant policies and procedures of Covenant House.
  11. De-escalate conflicts among clients through non-violent intervention
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Knowledge/Licensure: Bachelor's degree preferred.  Experience in providing creative arts support and programming for a childcare non-profit organization preferred.
